Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a targeted cyberattack against Ukraine that exploits a nearly seven-year-old flaw in Microsoft Office to deploy Cobalt Strike on compromised systems. The attack chain, which occurred at the end of 2023 as reported by Deep Instinct, begins with a PowerPoint slideshow file named “signal-2023-12-20-160512.ppsx”.
